Nature is what we are as well. It gives us life and it is the prerequisite for everything we know. Isn’t nature the most beautiful thing?
Actually, it is normal that we protect what we know. But this normality has been disturbed. Today, people have to protect nature from people.
Our way of doing business has brought nature into an existentially threatening state, with a clear trend of “onward into the Anthropocene.” Humanity tripled from 2.5 billion in 1950 to 8 billion today and continues to grow rapidly, especially in the poorer parts of the world. All people want prosperity, emerging economies also want industrialization. The destruction of our planet’s nature is progressing rapidly. Even though the EU’s mere 446 million citizens are ahead of the USA, Australia and China, but have so far also failed to meet their own climate targets – the billions of people in the poorer countries are just beginning to industrialize and increasingly fuel climate change.
Our biosphere has already warmed globally by an average of 1.2 degrees. At one degree temperature increase we already have fever. The South Pole had over 20 degrees (plus!) for the first time in early 2020. We know the first warming effects and we know about the first tipping points. Massive refugee flows from inhospitable parts of the world are predicted.
In addition, animals and plants are being displaced by increasing land use worldwide. The extinction of animal and plant species, already at an all-time high, is being driven further. Each species was unique in beauty and function to the biological system. The biosphere is increasingly losing its resilience and life-giving power.
In our normality, we no longer hear the increasingly frequent cries of alarm from nature.
Too much nature is dying! Which fight is more important?
We have to start with the people! The cause of nature conservation lies in a nature-friendly economy and in a valuable lifestyle. We work scientifically and practically in the economy and in society – with exemplary products that raise public awareness, pioneering nature-friendly manufacturing and recycling processes on an industrial scale, we work together with famous stars who use their fame for the common nature conservation goals, and we constantly work for the multilateral further development of our knowledge, the integration into the economic and legal system. And above all, we work for the transmission of the knowledge of BioDesign.
We believe that the solution to nature’s problems can best succeed democratically. With knowledge as a prerequisite for sustainability. This is what we stand for.
