On a strictly ideal and cultural level, the BioDesign Foundation is committed to harmonizing the relationships between humans, technology, material use and nature and to promoting a nature-friendly way of doing business. After all, our way of doing business significantly determines the anthropogenic influences in nature.
BioDesign, the legacy of Luigi Colani, is connoted as architecture for sustainable product manufacturing. By incorporating the conditions of nature into economic activity, we develop, promote and demand nature-friendly, materially closed economic cycles in the holistic product planning of companies:
In addition, we develop and promote sustainable management as the greatest sustainability potential of each individual – in valuable lifestyle, sustainable consumption and saving or financing. We educate the public about challenges and solutions to nature’s problems, provide better recommendations for action, and motivate people to participate. To achieve maximum improvements in a multiple participation of as many people as possible, we initiate and coordinate the movement of Custodians.
Legally centrally we support and demand the further inclusion of nature conditions in the EU Ecodesign Directive as well as corresponding global regulations as well as in the basic laws/constitutions of all states. The addition to the laws should apply holistically to all products in their entire economic cycle – in favor of a system-immanently effective and competitive, nature-friendly economy.
As a think tank, we develop a change in behavior among companies, consumers and politicians through consistent projects to raise awareness and motivation, knowledge transfer and exemplary solution implementations. To this end, we carry out sustainable, exemplary and high-profile projects on nature conservation and corporate cooperation for the nature-friendly transformation of business. In addition, we use didactic, public education on nature-friendly, interdisciplinary knowledge contexts and well-founded lobbying with the central points of influence to bring about behavioral changes on the way to a nature-friendly, effective transformation.
With all projects and actions we create exemplary, market and socially effective system changes with a high degree of publicity. Our own innovative recycling and nature conservation systems, BioDesign products and our movement of Custodians make it clear in an exemplary way that a valuable lifestyle and nature-friendly management are essential basic conditions for future sustainability and guarantee a beautiful and better life. Especially in poor countries, we create functioning recycling systems that help nature and create good social change: We create many meaningful jobs that can provide families with a livelihood, children’s and higher education, and a break from the poverty spiral.
