Milano Design Protocol

With our Milano Design Protocol, we start at the causal product planning for a reduction of the ecological footprint of many exemplary products. In the process, famous star designers and architects sign a self-commitment to achieve the goals of BioDesign as far as possible in their product planning with their customers/companies: nature-friendly production, logistics, product use and recycling. Exemplary, nature-friendly products with great public perception are created.

Celebrity circumnavigation with the BioDesign sailing yacht

With our own BioDesign sailing yacht (100% recycled material & Colani design), we are further publicizing our movement in 2022 by sailing around the world to plastic ocean pollution hot spots, among other places. Together with star celebrities and famous designers and architects, a TV documentary production and strong public relations, we promote nature-friendly business and a valuable and cool lifestyle.
We bring BioDesign in connection with the plastic littering of the oceans into the public eye.
BioDesign Oceans Plastic
100 million tons of plastic are floating in the ocean today. Every year, 10 million tons of new plastic are added, with major impacts against all biodiversity and our health. An estimated 135,000 marine mammals and 1,000,000 seabirds die annually from the plastic.
The BioDesign Foundation, through its unique system, will take large amounts of plastic out of the oceans and put it back into the economic cycle with an innovative recycling system. In mid-2021, we will begin cleaning up the oceans, recycling and producing exemplary and high-quality new plastic products from “BioDesign Oceans Plastic.”
In the process, we will provide jobs for many people, especially in poorer countries, and training for their families to participate in the economy and break the spiral of poverty.
We are cleaning up the oceans and closing the economic cycle for previously non-recyclable plastic. We recycle marine plastic into new, exemplary products!

Establishment of university faculties «BioDesign»
We transfer and multiply BioDesign knowledge into higher education in the fields of design, architecture and business. At cooperating universities worldwide, we permanently institutionalize education for ecologically sustainable production, continuously develop it scientifically and ensure its implementation in the economy.
Together with the scientific community, we establish BioDesign in the central faculties and thus increasingly in the economy and society.

Lobbying
The EU Ecodesign Directive is the legal construct for the ecological regulation of all products. So far, it is almost exclusively limited to the energy reduction of “energy-related products”. What is missing is the intelligent, holistic incorporation of nature knowledge in general in the planning of all products in their complete life cycles: from material extraction, energy planning, production, transport, use to recycling (reuse/recycling of materials if possible).
Our political-economic support and demand
The protection of nature should apply holistically to all products in their entire economic cycle in favor of a system-immanently effective and competitive, nature-friendly economy. Furthermore, we demand the inclusion of nature conditions in the basic laws/constitutions of all states.
We demand BioDesign in the EU Ecodesign Directive and corresponding global laws as well as in the constitutions of all states.
Nature-friendly Financial Market: Saving/Investing
Challenge
Managing financial flows has the greatest potential for transforming economic markets in a way that protects nature. All markets work for money. The question “To whom do I give my money for which product? Who makes the best nature-friendly products?” applies equally to financial investments and financing. The potential for directing money to nature-friendly investments and thus to nature-friendly products is even disproportionately higher here.
Everyone gives part of their money to companies for their daily consumption decisions. The bulk – income and assets – everyone has at their bank. Banks give this money in the form of loans or investments to companies that use it to manufacture products – more or less sustainably. Everyone could contribute the full potential of their money to the nature-friendly transformation of the economy – if only they knew how. Everyone could tie their payments or investments to nature-friendly demands.
Knowledge brings democratic power.
Only this knowledge creates a market-effective demand for nature-conserving investments. The nature-protecting demand of many will cause a very effective democratic money control on the way to the necessary nature-protecting economic transformation!
So far, however, this topic (“Sustainable Finance”) is only managed as a “new, highly complex expert and niche topic” by bankers, without the relevant public attention. With only 5% market volume, sustainable funds only occupy a niche in the overall fund market. And these “sustainable funds” usually have such a large heterogeneity of different ESG/sustainability criteria that customers hardly penetrate or understand. The great conservation potential of the money markets remains pretty much untapped so far.
Solution
We raise public awareness and disseminate knowledge for nature conservation through money management in order to increase the demand for nature-friendly investments in the financial markets. The growing demand increases the supply of nature-friendly financial investments and thus increases investments for nature-friendly products at companies.
We multiply the knowledge of the powerful steering potential of money in attention-grabbing public relations, symposia/keynotes with business, politics and banks as well as for private investors and in investment cooperations with sustainable goals.
All markets work for money. Money is given a nature-friendly steering function.
Actions
In the community of our movement of Custodians, we will make the effects of conventional financial investments transparent in high-profile actions. We will compare these with the wishes of the people and demand much more nature-friendly products via the financial sector. For the financial sector, a new, growing market is emerging that is worth tapping into. Because sustainability is the new cool!
